Beauty Cure: Hyperpigmentation aka SPOTS!!

Feeling spotty lately?

Hyperpigmentation -- or darkened areas of skin -- is an overwhelmingly top skin care complaint for women. Discolored spots can set up shop on our skin after acne breakouts, from too much sun exposure, and as a side effect from birth control pills, which doctors call melasma.

Spot fixers hit the market all the time, but a new illuminating skin care line from VMV Hypoallergenics is gaining notice for what it doesn't contain as much as what it does.

All products in the popular international line are clear of all or most 76 known skin allergens, which means they're completely free of fragrance, parabens, phthalates, dyes and preservatives.

The new Illuminants+ line harnesses the power of nine different tyrosinase inhibitors, which prevent skin cells from producing excess melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. Kojic acid and a bearberry leaf-vitamin C complex join with seven botanical extracts in creating the blend.

Eastern-influenced antioxidants like green tea and rice phytic acid speed up cell turnover to repair any color damage already troubling the complexion, while undiluted glycolic acid allows the treatment to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Finally, a chemical-free, high sunscreen of SPF 50 shields skin from further darkening damage that may be caused by the sun's rays.

With a freshly launched cleanser, toner, creams for face and body and a soon-to-come antiperspirant for darkened pits, we expect to hear lots more buzz over the coming months as consumers give the products a go.

And while we haven't tested the products for the weeks it would require to see full results, we found that initial applications left skin with a slightly pearly brightened appearance. We're more than just a little excited.
